Gleeden is a French online dating platform and social networking website aimed mostly at women, including those who are already married. It was first introduced in France in 2009. Adults of all marital statuses viz. married, separated, divorced, live-in relationships, and single, along with people of all sexual orientations are welcome to join the Gleeden community. Gleeden is mostly intended for men and women. During the Covid-19 period, the extra-marital app, which was developed in France, announced that it had crossed 13 lakh subscribers in India, with its subscription rate skyrocketing in just three months.

Gleeden’s business model, unlike that of eHarmony or Meetic, is based on credits rather than monthly subscriptions. To connect with other users, a subscriber may buy credit packs. To engage in an email or text session with another user, members pay a one-time charge of 2-3 credits. Subsequent messages in a thread are unregulated. Credit packs, private calls, and chats do not expire. Members interact with one another through chat or private messaging. Members will give virtual presents to one another, which are organised by type and price. The moderation strategy, though, can be rigid. Private images can be stored in a different photo archive , or “private book”, which can only be accessed with the consent of the member who owns the images.

How many Indians use Gleeden?

According to a survey conducted by Gleeden in 2020, subscriptions from India increased by over 246% in September, October and November compared to June, July and August. During the Covid-19 season, it surpassed 13 lakh subscribers in India, with subscription rates skyrocketing in a span of three months. The age range, according to media sources, is between 34 and 49 years old. In India, a number of people from different professions including judges, lawyers, doctors and senior executives have entered the community.

According to the service, the network has attracted nearly three lakh subscribers in four months, with 2.5 lakh of them joining in a span of two months. Since 2019, the amount of time spent on the website and app has tripled. And after the lock down prohibitions were repealed, people still preferred virtual dating over face-to-face meetings because the danger of contracting the virus remained high.

The app has also made significant gains in Tier-1 cities, with Bengaluru taking the top spot with 16.2% of the overall Gleeden population in India and a growth rate since March 2020, new consumer acquisition has increased by more than 17%. Mumbai comes in second, with 15.6% of Gleeden members and a growth rate of over 14%. With 15.4% of Indian users and a growth rate of more than 25%, Delhi has risen to third place.

Gleeden usage stats

Though Gleeden is founded in France, Indians converse for ‘longer’ periods of time than Europeans. Gleeden reported that Indians spend marginally more time in chat than Europeans., averaging at 3.5 hours a day as compared to three hours. Couples’ commitment is at its highest on weekends, although the peak hours, which are 10 pm to 12 am, are consistent throughout the week. Since the beginning of the lock down, male members on the site have spent more time, with a rise of over 45% in spending on the app.

The number of Indian women who use the app is increasing. Considering that while women made up 25% of Gleeden’s Indian users the previous year, they now make up 30%. This demonstrates that Gleeden is attracting an increasing number of female users everyday (Marketing Strategist, Solene Paillet). The number of users on Gleeden has increased dramatically and rapidly since the decriminalization of adultery in India. Gleeden had about 1.2 lakh Indian users when they first began connecting in India. In less than a year, the registered users have increased by more than 37%, demonstrating that people really wanted this kind of community.

Charges for Gleeden in India

Gleeden, a luxury dating website-cum-app for married people, is gaining traction in India and now has over 100,000 subscribers. The website is free for female usersand is run solely by a team of 20 women. The platform provides various subscription bundles for men, beginning at Rs. 700. The team at Gleeden believes that since it is owned by women, women should not be required to pay for the service. They want the platform to be appealing to women. Extramarital dating is a common occurrence. When women have been married for a while, they tend to search for excitement, which they can now find online.

Surprisingly, men’s subscription services are determined by the amount of conversations they partake rather than the time spent on the app. Since the app and website is run by a female team for the female population, it is completely free for women. Men, on the other hand, are evaluated by women, and the fees to access the network could vary from Rs. 750 to Rs. 9,500.

This ensures that women will always come first on Gleeden. In India, the actual distribution is 70% men and 30% women, which is a very high proportion given that facilities for extramarital affairs draw a significant number of men. By charging men for the service, it acts as a first filter against slackers, bullies, and harassers. As a result, Gleeden is a high-quality community occupied only by highly driven individuals. Women will feel better and more at ease because they know that the men they will meet on Gleeden are not there to annoy or harass them out of boredom.

The app charges men for facilities and allows them to use in-app contact methods such as private messaging, live chats, gifts, photo galleries in exchange for credits. Credit shopping packs for men in India vary from Rs. 750 to Rs. 9,500.

To enter the community, one must fill up a form including personal information such as the number of children, marital status, sexual identity, occupation, salary, smoking status, body measurements, ethnicity, hair colour and hair length, eye colour, and hobbies and passions. It is absolutely free for women, however, there is a credit-based obligation-free scheme for men.

According to users, it can be a painful experience for men’s pockets, since messaging requires them to have credits which again costs anywhere from Rs. 1000-3000 to begin with. If a man messages someone and they respond, the credits are deducted. If the chat window is lost, and they responded again a while later, there will be credits deducted despite you being online. According to this user, it would be better to get the ladies’ contact info as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary charges which cost a considerably large amount of money.

The website’s aim, is not to come in between the institution of marriage, but to provide a safe and confidential place for people looking for extramarital affairs. Fake, obscene, or provocative photos and texts are immediately rejected. Fake identities and inappropriate behaviour are vigorously investigated and users who may not follow the rules and regulations are barred from the network. Many people would still be unhappy with the app in terms of social approval, but attitudes are shifting, many people feel motivated to follow lifestyles and habitual patterns that encourage them to be happier, even if it means finding someone special using an extramarital app.
