Before the beginning of the nationwide vaccination drive against Covid-19 in India on January 16, certain guidelines have been released that under what circumstances it is safe especially for kids.

The children who are below the age of 18 and newborn are prone to test positive from Covid -19. It is reported that in States like Maharashtra, Akola and Amravati cases of covid with the age group below and 18 and newborn have already tested positive from covid 19. Record is surging day by day higher and some even die due to the virus.


According to statistics, 6826 cases has been recorded in the Amravati district alone in the past week. Among 6826 cases, 408 cases were of newborn and the children who are below 18 years of age who got positive. Among 2311 cases in Akola, a minimum of 242 were of newborn and those below 18 years of age.


According to the experts, since the children and those below 18 years of age did not get inoculated against the Covid 19, that's why they are more at risk from the second and third wave of Covid 19.


As soon as the second and third wave of covid 19 got reported the government has started preparing given the severe third wave of covid 19 as instructed by the Supreme Court.  It is been reported that Europe and the countries like the US and UK are dealing with the third wave of Covid 19. The third wave has reached a peak in Sweden and Canada.


As of now, only the immunisation process can be of some help from the covid 19 infections. Since the target of the first wave were elderly people, the youth and the children are the main targets of the second and third wave.


It has been reported that less than 1% of children got affected by the first wave of Covid 19. But now the rate has escalated to 10% in the case of the second and third wave of Covid 19. Since there is no vaccination arrangement for children as such, they are at higher risk. In the second wave of covid 19, some children are getting affected with more serious diseases.

Here are some of the precautionary measures you can undertake for the protection of your kids against COVID-19:-



Prioritise protection – Most of the parents are thrilled about the introduction of their newborn baby to family and friends and acquaintances. One of the best strategies to keep your baby safe from the virus is to maintain social distancing. As per Indian customs are concerned, many people pay a visit to a new baby when they are born. While most relative and friends will themselves maintain a safe distance is such a crucial time and you can also politely decline to respect the current situation. Social media or video conferencing devices and apps could be helpful for you to connect with your near and dear ones.

Maintain proper hygiene – Coverage of the mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing is very Important.  Further, babies who are under 2 years of age should not wear a mask because having smaller airways and breathing under a cloth covering is a lot harder for them. Please be precautionary about who enters your home whether it is your maid or cook, sanitise themselves properly before letting them into your house and touching your baby and be sure of the fact that they wear a mask at all times. Also, follow a rigid and proper safe and hygienic preparation of food for your little ones since any kind of irresponsibility in hygiene means can cause them a big problem.

Keep a stock of diapers and medications – If the government announces two-week quarantine, or if there are deficiencies of essential supplies, it is recommended that parents should keep a stock of a month's worth of crucial items including 30 day's worth of diapers, wipes, and the medications including Motrin and Tylenol. The filling of their medicine cabinets with prescription medications and medical supplies, which includes inhalers for asthma should also be done by family members before the time.

Change clothes at least twice a day – Children are prone to infection during such difficult times. Since kids play around not paying much attention to the surrounding hygiene of the area, they may carry bacteria and germs inside their clothes. So it's very necessary to change their clothes twice for removal of all the germ and bacteria and to keep neat and clean.

Be mindful of older family members – The most vulnerable ones to the novel coronavirus disease are older people and those with other severe medical conditions. It is necessary to take extra precautions with more at-risk and older family members. Reduction of contact, washing hands more often and not hugging or kissing can enhance the protection of those who may have a greater chance for the development of the coronavirus and related complications on them.
