How to actually get on Raya Dating App?
You probably have a lot of questions if you've watched the viral videos of Ben Affleck and Matthew Perry's alleged exchanges with Raya matches 700 times in a row. While no one can predict what might cause a famous actor to leave a video for someone who unmatched him, understanding how Raya dating works works is a little easier.
Raya, a dating app launched in February 2015 by tech developer Daniel Gendelman, bills itself as a "Digital Dinner Party" for people in "creative industries." Though the app's deliberate secrecy and intrigue have earned it the moniker "Illuminati Tinder." Raya app had over 10,000 members in "dozens" of countries, Gendelman told The New York Times in 2018. While members are not permitted to reveal who they've seen on Raya, Us Weekly reports a number of celebrity sightings on the app, including Demi Lovato, John Mayer, Channing Tatum, Kiernan Shipka, Drew Barrymore, and Lizzo.
1. How Do I Get On Raya App?
Raya memberships, like Telfar Shopping Bags, are difficult to obtain. According to The New York Times, Raya has an 8% acceptance rate, which means that joining the app is akin to getting into an Ivy League university. Admission to Raya dating is a multi-step process, according to the app's website. You must submit an application that will be reviewed by "hundreds of anonymous committee members." You will also need a referral from someone (or, according to some users, a large number of people) who is already using the app. Then you have to wait
Ryan, a 27-year-old model and artist from Brooklyn, joined Raya in 2018. Ryan, 27, tells Bustle, "Being on it makes me feel like a hot b*tch because it's supposed to be so exclusive." "It's a good way to meet creatives and cool people who wouldn't normally be on Tinder."
2. How Long Does It Take To Get Off The Raya Waitlist?
According to Business Insider, the Raya waitlist had more than 100,000 people in 2018. Furthermore, if you don't make the cut, Raya app is unlikely to send you a rejection notice — according to some users, your application will remain "pending" indefinitely.
Ryan claims that having many friends on the app refer him likely aided in the progression of his application. Despite only being on the waitlist for a week, Ryan says he's referred a dozen of his friends in the last year. It's taken them several weeks to find out if they've been accepted.
"When people sign up, they see their contacts who are on the app, and if they choose one for a referral, they get a pop-up asking if they would refer you or not," Ryan explains.
While the site claims Raya app adds new members every day and that admission to the app can take "anywhere from a day to a few months," it's difficult to say how long the average wait time is. Laura, a 32-year-old artist and model from Los Angeles, claims she has been on the waitlist for more than two years. One App Store reviewer has been waiting since 2017. Even former Bachelorette Hannah Brown took to Instagram in February 2020 to express her dissatisfaction with being on the waitlist for months.
Laura tells Bustle, "I've even messaged them asking, and they just told me to wait." "I get the impression that there are only influencers on there." A friend with far more Instagram followers than me was accepted, and she told me that's mostly what she sees."
3. How Does Raya Work?
Raya dating app has been dubbed "Tinder For Famous People," but the music and slideshow function make it feel more like...PowerPoint. "You choose a song and create a slideshow of your photos," Ryan explains. "The song is playing in the background while you view the slideshow."
Raya dating, like Tinder, uses a swipe, match, and message system. When you click on someone's photo, a slideshow and song will begin to play. You can then swipe "Yes" or "No." You can text message or video chat within the app if both people say "Yes." However, matches expire after 10 days if no one responds to the first message, and you're only shown a certain number of profiles per day. "I think it's five to ten [profiles] every few hours," Ryan says. "You only see a few people per day, so it's not just a numbers game," writes one App Store reviewer.
Users upload one main picture for their profile, a short bio, their age, location, and work, in addition to the slideshow. "You apply through Instagram," Ryan explains. "Your handle appears on the page." Ryan claims that his slideshow contains 8-10 photos. You must upload your own photos while your Instagram handle is displayed on your page.
Unlike Tinder, potential Raya matches can come from anywhere in the world. There is no option to filter by location; only age and gender are available. There is a "Maps" page where you can find users near you, but Ryan says it costs extra to message people nearby.
4. The Rules Of Raya Dating
Ryan was not allowed to share screenshots of the app because doing so would result in his account being terminated. These rules apply to celebrities as well. Stassi Schroeder of Vanderpump Rules tweeted in 2018 about being kicked off for simply "talking about" the app in public. Ryan says that once you've been accepted into the app, you must agree to a set of rules. The guidelines on Raya's website state that applicants must be over the age of 18, have no public depictions of hatred, and cannot have "consistent displays of excessive wealth."
"Every member is expected to follow our simple rules of respect, trust, and privacy," the guidelines state. Raya app dismisses former members who do not share the same community values. Furthermore, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate any membership that we no longer believe contributes to the strength of our community."
5. How Much Does Raya app Cost?
Once admitted to Raya, a membership costs $9.99 per month, according to the App Store. Users can, however, pay more for additional in-app purchases, such as more likes.
6. What Famous Couples Met On Raya?
Because of the strict secrecy rules, it's difficult to say which celebrities found love via Raya dating. Despite this, comedian Amy Schumer mentions meeting her ex, furniture designer Ben Hanisch, on the app in her book, The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo. But who knows, maybe Affleck will surprise you with a video next.
