UGC
directs universities and colleges to form a complaint committee against gender
bias
To
address the corresponding gender prejudices, the University Grants Commission,
or UGC, has ordered universities and colleges to establish an internal complaint
committee or ICC. A specific unit to carry out activities for gender awareness
has also been requested by UGC.
You
are urged to check that the ICC established by your esteemed university is
operating in accordance with the UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redress of
Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational
Institutions) Regulations, 2015, according to a communique posted on the UGC's
official website.
Additionally,
UGC has requested that all Universities and associated colleges complete the
SAKSHAM Portal's online Gender Audit compliance form.
ICC
will ensure that there are no gender biases present in college and university
environments. Any complaints in this regard must be handled sensitively and
effectively.
Additionally,
UGC has requested that universities set up police, hospital, and women's
hotline numbers around their campuses. Additionally, in order to spread
awareness of gender equality, colleges are expected to plan exposure trips to
villages, blocks, districts, and cities.
All
educational institutions are required by UGC to maintain gender equality on
their grounds and that each individual is treated with respect and dignity.
According to UGC, The Government of India foresees Gender Champions at all
educational institutions across the country in order to improve the outreach
for creating an environment that supports equal treatment. Boys and girls over
16 who are enrolled in school are eligible to be gender champions. The goal of
gender champions is to create an environment where females are treated with
respect and dignity inside their schools, universities, and academic
institutions.
